Perfect!!!
Very beautiful place to camp. Right in woods
Super nice nature camping (ideal for children up to 12 years). Nice sites.Clean restrooms. With a cafetaria ,fresh bread on request delivered at your site. Only thing missing was kiddos toilets, the "normal" toi was very high.
We stayed for ten days with our sons, aged over 3 and almost 9. They were never bored for a moment!
The campsite is well-organized, safe, well-organized, spacious, well-maintained pitches with lots of variety in how you want to stand!
Multiple places to play. Both the sandy plain and the large playground near the catering industry are often visited and there is always something to do. No worries that the youngest could accidentally reach the water, great!
Fish pond not used, but saw fishermen catching (small carp and roach)
What stood out; children of all ages present, a nice mixed audience with tents, trailers and caravans.
The animation is a nice addition, but the girls who do it are still a bit young, which makes it a bit messy at times.
Sanitary facilities are fine, enough, and everything you need is there, including stools for the kids (we did miss some towel hooks for washing up). Showers allow you to hang/put away your belongings dry, shower without coins, just warm enough. There is a family shower with a separate baby bath for both men and women.
It is cleaned twice a day, looks hygienically clean, but of course always a bit sandy at a forest campsite :-).
What could have been an addition to our holiday is a “foul weather place”; a wooden shed or something like that where the kids can sit dry with entertainment or we could go as a family on the many rainy days we had.
The surroundings are beautiful, straight onto the heath from the campsite, lots of cycling and plenty of activities nearby. Tips: the mammoth cycle route of the Steenmannetjes app, tree crown path and especially a nice walk into the forest below, Gasselterveld for swimming and going to the aqua park.
After visiting 5 campsites of similar size in this area in recent years, Horstmannsbos is the winner for our family!
Very nice campsite for children and adults, children will have a great time in one of the playgrounds or at the water courses. From the campsite you can walk straight into the beautiful forest. definitely worth going.
However, I still have some areas for improvement. Because of all the sand, the toilet building is actually always dirty. cobwebs everywhere, which are not removed. There are too few shower cubicles and they are very small, so you cannot dress normally because you will be standing in the wet. several people put on their pants with the door open/outside the cabin. Showering is also not very easy. Every 10-30 seconds you have to press the shower for water (even the tap of the water track takes longer), otherwise it is warm and a good jet.
In the catering industry they have a wide choice of ice creams/snacks/fries/pancakes, but the opening hours are not correct. they just close earlier if it suits them without indicating this, which is very frustrating. I understand that when it is quiet you don't have 3 people walking around there. only 1 person who does the reception and catering must be able to do this.
Furthermore, it says that it is a car-free campsite, but there is a lot of driving on the campsite, not only from people coming or going, but also from cars in between and from machines. which is very annoying with all young children.
A point where you can rinse a dog would be much appreciated.
In the middle of the woods on the edge of the Drouwenerzand, this is a spacious campsite with large pitches, lots of privacy and many play areas. We rented a safari tent without sanitary facilities. There are two looking across the sandy plain into the forest. That 'without sanitary facilities' is not a problem at all because they are located close to the sanitary building. Because it is located behind a hill, you only have convenience and no inconvenience. The purple pole route of approximately 5 km literally passes in front of the tent, so you can walk straight onto the heath.
The catering industry is basic but okay with a wide range of local beers.
Rented Safari tent 9 (Haas) for 10 days. Really nice spacious tent, with all the trimmings. We had a guest room for a few nights and there was enough space to fit an extra air mattress. However, it is already adapted to 4 people, so you need to bring your own chair and cutlery.
The field is shady, so it's also a great place to stay on sunny days.
Play equipment on the field and the children can also walk straight to the play/swimming pond. Glad this is closed. Gates can be opened with a wristband.
Staff are friendly. And the campsite is taken care of (several times I saw someone walking to pick up trash).
2 improvement points:
- an indoor accommodation for the recreation program would be nice. We had quite a few days of rain and then some activities were cancelled.
- a drain or shower mat for the shower. Now all the water remains when you get out of the shower wet and you cannot easily remove that water.
